The company known today as Azufrera y Fertilizantes Pallarés, S.A. (AFEPASA) was founded in 1893.

The Catalan businessman, D. Juan Pallarés Bosch, started to commercialize salt and installed the necessary mill for its milling. In just a short time, this entrepreneur extended his activity to the milling of sulphur, which was used in vineyards as a fungicide to prevent and treat some of the most common diseases that plague the vines.

As a historical anecdote; the stone sulphur mill (drawn by animal traction) obtained a production of 30 mt per year in 1896.

The Pallarés family continued with this activity to become the market leader in Spain of sulfur-based products despite the emergence of a strong competitor, American sulphur, in 1921.

In order to compete with this American sulphur, the Pallarés family installed an ultra-modern sulphur refinery with the most advanced equipment of that time. Since then AFEPASA has continued to strengthen its leadership, has expanded its area of influence and strives to provide the best products and services to its clients every day.

This has led, in 2002, to the construction of a new factory in Constantí (Tarragona): the most modern sulphur refinery in Southern Europe.

The team at AFEPASA, together with its distributors and commercial agents, offers comprehensive answers to the farmer through several Good Phytosanitarian Practices which result in healthy and secure foods, security for the applicator and the environment.

These comprehensive answers are offered in the form of the Crop Protection Products that AFEPASA commercializes. These products are essential for agricultural production and are used both in conventional agricultural systems and in other agricultural systems such as an integrated or an organic agricultural system. They are necessary to counter the potential damage that the different types of plagues/diseases might cause.

AFEPASA′s key priority is to cooperate with all the organizations that promote a sustainable agriculture and preservation of the health of vegetable species.

At AFEPASA we promote the use of natural resources and production mechanisms to ensure a sustainable agriculture in the long term, using techniques that meet the demands of society for the protection of the environment as well as for agricultural production.

AFEPASA believes in and supports the use of the Crop Protection Products that it has been commercializing since 1893. These products give farmers a complete and comprehensive answer and a natural means to fight the plagues and diseases that threaten their crops. The self-defense mechanisms of the crops are not sufficient to fight external factors and AFEPASA`s Crop Protection products provide the necessary answer to protect the means of agricultural production.
